At Resource Training & Solutions, we are excited to support our member school districts with an impressive array of student programs and competitions for the 2024-2025 school year. Our goal is to ignite students' intellectual curiosity and passions, fostering peak learning through immersive, hands-on experiences. Student Competitions: 

Resource Training & Solutions coordinates a range of student competitions, with the aim of nurturing innovation, fostering critical thinking, and promoting collaborative skills among participants.

Knowledge Bowl

Knowledge Bowl is a team academic competition that encourages teamwork, collaboration, effective communication and strategic thinking.  Students work together to solve oral and written round questions related to all areas of learning typical of elementary or secondary educational programs.  Questions test students' recall, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Intermediate / Junior High Knowledge Bowl

Grades: 4th - 8th

Typical Season runs from the middle of October through the start of December.

Region 7 Senior High Knowledge Bowl

Grades: 9th - 12th

Typical Season runs from January through March with the State Meet in April for those who qualify.

Registration deadline: Friday, December 20, 2024

Regional Spelling Bee

Grades: 3rd - 8th

The spelling bee competition is designed to help students improve their spelling and vocabulary development. The series of spelling contests starts at the school and district levels, with winners advancing to regional events. Regional winners may participate in the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee and the winner advances to the National Spelling Bee. All schools wishing to participate in the Region 7 Regional Spelling Bee must enroll with Scripps National Spelling Bee for District materials and with Resource Training and Solutions for the Regional Spelling Bee.

Math Masters

Grades: 4th - 6th

The Math Masters mathematics competition program challenges 4th, 5th and 6th grade students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. Students compete as individuals and on teams in eight rounds of competition held in March and April each year. Students’ academic effort and achievement is recognized with plaques, medallions and ribbons in each competition element: Fact Drill, Individual Round and Team Competition.

Competition Dates hosted by Resource Training & Solutions:

  • 4th Grade Competition: Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Check in at 8:15 a.m.
  • 5th Grade Competition: Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Check In at 8:15 a.m.
  • 6th Grade Competition: Thursday, May 1, 2025, Check In at 8:15 a.m.

Future City

Grades: 6th - 8th

Future City starts with a question—how can we make the world a better place? To answer it, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue.

Future City is a flexible, project based learning experience that you can adapt for your classroom, after-school club, or homeschool group. Students will utilize their science, math and engineering knowledge to create cities that exist at least 100 years in the future. The program’s deliverables appeal to a variety of skill sets and interests, like creative problem solving, building scale models, researching, writing, and public speaking—make it accessible to a variety of students and relevant for educators with various areas of subject matter expertise.

Poetry Out Loud

Grades: 9th - 12th

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board and SCSC.

Competition Timeline:

  • Register to participate in the program by mid December and complete local competition by start of February
  • Regional competitions will be held the first three weeks in February.
  • State competition to be held the last week of February.
  • National competition in Washington, D.C. in late April.

Student Conferences: 

Resource Training & Solutions coordinates multiple student conferences to engage, equip, and empower students beyond the classroom. We invite and encourage each member district in our region to participate in these very special events.

Spark STEM Conference

This conference is open to all Resource Training & Solutions associate and full member school districts. The halls of the Wick Science Building on the campus of St. Cloud State University are filled with future mathematicians, engineers, and computer programmers as nearly 700 students, STEM educators, and experts participate in this annual student conference in early January.

Registration opens September 5th with discounted early bird rate good through October 15th and remains open at the regular rate through December 1st. Late registrations will only be accepted after December 1st based on availability. Space is limited for this event, so reserve your student spots TODAY!

Young Authors Young Artists Conference

Join us in May for our Young Authors Young Artists Student Conference. This conference is open to 3rd - 8th graders. Students will explore their imagination and creativity through a variety of learning sessions. Learning new strategies, ideas, and skills to improve their own writing and artistic creations. Registration typically opens in March and runs through April for this event.

Registration opens September 5th with discounted early bird rate good through March 1st and remains open at the regular rate through April 15th. Late registrations will only be accepted after April 15th based on availability. Space is limited for this event, so reserve your student spots TODAY!
