On February 5th, 2020, Resource Training & Solutions hosted the Central Minnesota Regional Spelling Bee. Forty-four students, 5th through 8th grade, from twenty-five different school districts spread across Resource Training & Solutions service region competed to advance to the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee.
The Central Minnesota Regional Spelling Bee was split into two contests. The first place and second place winners of each contest will represent Resource Training & Solutions at the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee to be held on February 18th, 2020 at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls, MN.
The morning Spelling Bee consisted of twenty-two contestants which went twelve rounds with 105 words, to determine first and second place. Ben St. Hilaire, a seventh-grader from St. John’s Preparatory School spelled “contemptuous” to take first place in the morning session. Julian Baker, a sixth-grader from St. Cloud Schools South Junior High spelled“marmoset” correctly to take second place in the morning session.
The afternoon Spelling Bee also consisted of twenty-two contestants which went nine rounds and consisted of 118 different words to determine first and second place. Eliana Szabo, a seventh-grader from H.E.Y. Home Schools spelled “millivolt” correctly to take first place in the afternoon session. Anthony Bergeron, a seventh-grader from Pine City Junior-Senior High School spelled “tapioca” correctly to take second place in the afternoon session.
The top four students will go on to compete at the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee. Winners from Multi-Regional advance to the 93rd Annual National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. to be held May 24-29, 2020. The National Spelling bee will be broadcast live on ESPN.
