The transition from high school to adulthood is a pivotal moment in the lives of autistic youth and their families. In this insightful webinar, Dr. Andrew Nelson, Director of the Autism Response Team (ART) at Autism Speaks, and Resource's own autism expert, Nikki Bettcher Erickson will share strategies for navigating this complex journey. Practical tips for accessing support services, the importance of self-advocacy, and how to navigate systems of care and education as autistic individuals move into adulthood are topics that will be covered. Participants will gain valuable insights from Dr. Nelson’s research on autistic resilience and self-advocacy, and learn how you can better support autistic youth during this important life stage. This webinar is applicable for parents, caregivers, educators and professionals working to create a smoother transition for autistic individuals into adulthood.

About the Presenter

Dr. Nelson and his team have been at the forefront of providing resources, guidance, and referrals to the autism community. With extensive experience working locally, nationally, and globally, he has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that arise during this transition.

Nikki Bettcher Erickson has worked with youth and adults on the autism spectrum since 2006. A licensed special education teacher (ASD), she has also worked globally as a theatre for autism artist. She is completing her doctoral studies on teacher perceptions of neurodivergence and their effectiveness in supporting students with autism and ADHD in Tier 1 educational settings.
