This workshop explores Disciplinary Literacy and how students develop the skills needed to comprehend and analyze complex texts across different content areas. Grounded in the Science of Reading, it highlights how both foundational skills and higher-level comprehension strategies support literacy development. Using Scarborough’s Reading Rope as a framework, we will examine how word recognition and language comprehension work together to create skilled readers. Participants will learn how literacy demands vary by discipline and gain practical strategies to help students navigate subject-specific texts. Through interactive discussions and applications, educators will leave with a clear understanding of how to integrate disciplinary literacy into their instruction.
