This interactive, six-session book study is designed for childcare providers and early childhood educators seeking to deepen their understanding of how literacy develops from birth through preschool and how to apply this knowledge in real-world settings. Based on the book Literacy Learning for Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers: Key Practices for Educators by Wright, Cabell, Duke, and Souto-Manning, this workshop will explore the science of reading through a developmental lens, equipping educators with practical strategies to foster early literacy skills in young children.

The book highlights the critical role educators play in creating literacy-rich environments, supporting language development, and guiding children’s first experiences with reading and writing. Participants will engage in structured reading assignments, reflection questions, and group discussions designed to make the connection between research-based practices and daily classroom activities.

Together, we’ll explore how intentional planning and reflective practice can create rich, stimulating environments where literacy flourishes—setting children on a path toward lifelong academic and social success. Educators will leave with practical tools for fostering early literacy skills, empowering them to support young children’s language development in meaningful and effective ways.

Participants are responsible for purchasing the book on their own.

Cohort will meet bi-weekly on the following dates:
