A common denominator among all of the great teachers is a sense of humor. That’s not to say you have to be hilarious in order to be happy, but it clearly helps a great deal not to take yourself so seriously. And it turns out that humor is a skill. As we move into the fall, our energy can wane, and sometimes we’re more reactive. Learning to be in the present moment, without judgment, boosts our resilience and allows us to cultivate awareness of our emotions. When we’re fully present, we’re more likely to find appropriate light-heartedness to moments of challenge and to relieve stress by finding humor in a situation.
